Mr. Monkey was invited to tour Lovedale Farm today with Pieter le Roux, farm manager. With ~1,000 Persian, Swakara sheep plus Jersey cattle and Nooitgedacht ponies, there are many tasks a farm manager must do each day.
Mr. Monkey got to feed grain to yearlings and check the water tanks to make sure they were filling.
He also watched Pieter help an ewe, with a hurt foot.
Pieter cleared the thorn and gave her some vitamins.
Back at the farm, Mr. Monkey got to observe Pieter and his staff inoculate, tag and wean the new lambs. Mr. Monkey got to learn how much hard work happens each day on a farm!
